tree19     The Babb Family      tree19

When my father was about 16 years old, his mother, Lessie Floy married Bennett A. Babb.  I always felt lucky because I had 3 sets of grandparents as a child.  My grandfather Benny was one of the most interesting people I have ever known.  He was a merchant marine, a lineman in the High Sierras, had the largest poultry breeding ranch on the west coast in the 1940's, raised avocados in the 1950-1960's, and was a talented sculptor.  He was loved by many.

When we were cleaning out his home after his death, we found a photograph of a group of Civil War soldiers.  Benny had told us that his grandfather was a soldier in the war.  He had at one time, his uniform and sword.  Unfortunately, they had been stolen many years ago.  We had the photograph in its case for several years, when I decided to scan it.  As we were taking it out of it's case, we found a letter with a great deal of information.  He served in H Company, 39th Regiment, Ohio.

Benny's grandfather is Robert W. Babb and is the third man from the left, standing in the back.
